Yuka Shimizu Exhibition

“Tsumami-zaiku” originated in the Edo period (1603-1867) when it was used to decorate Kabuki plays.
I believe that the Tsumami-zaiku technique is at its best when used to beautifully adorn women as ornaments.
For this solo exhibition, I have tried to combine elements from other countries, such as Asian folk costumes and French aristocratic ornaments, with Takehisa Yumeji and Taisho Modern, which are the starting point of my worldview, as the core of my work.
Until now, I have been conscious  “Tsumami-zaiku” that is not restricted to Japanese traditional clothing but also fits well with Western clothing, but this time I am taking on the challenge of creating even freer and more borderless works of art.<Yuka Shimizu>
This exhibition will feature approximately 40 pieces of artwork, kanzashi (hair ornament), earrings, necklaces, and more.
