We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of Kanazawa-based ceramic artist Hirotake Imanishi. His creative activities are based on the themes of “cell proliferation” and “life energy,” which have impressed him during his long years of research, and their powerful and dynamic nature. He aims to create works of self-expression using a hybrid of clay and glaze of his own invention and the techniques of Kutaniyaki. We hope you enjoy viewing his works.

Hirotake IMANISHI was born in Nara, JAPAN.
He received Ph.D. in molecular biology from University of Tsukuba in 2012. After leaving grad school in 2012 he started to study basic skills of ceramic at Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute. His career change as ceramic artist was affected by his father, Ceramic artist Masaya IMANISHI.
At institute he studied traditional potter’s wheel technique of Shigaraki and learned basic knowledge of clay and glaze, kiln firing. After two years of study, he moved to Ishikawa prefecture to study Kutani pottery technique such was over glaze painting. He also learned in Kanazawa College of Art as Degree student.

His work is produced with the theme of biological fundamental power. In both his forms and decorative motifs, he often makes reference to patterns found in common molecular structure.

And they are in the possession of Tata Consultancy Services (Pune, India) , University of Pune (Pune, India), Grand Prince hotel NewTakanawa (Tokyo, Japan) and have been used in installations and collaborative events.
